  • The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Milwaukee bicycle repair program is staffed by volunteers who use donated parts and tools to build and repair bicycles for those who cannot afford to own or maintain a bike. Many of the participants can't afford other means of transportation including public and a bicycle is their only means. Most of the volunteers ride bikes themselves and enjoy helping out.

Feed My Starving Children is Christian organization based in Minnesota that helps feed starving children around the world. Meals are packaged by volunteers and paid for through donations. FMSC has four permanent packaging sites but also a mobile pack program. Here, a mobile pack site uses the facilities at Portal Industries in Grafton.

The center is one of 33 sites where volunteers and social service workers are counting the homeless in Genesee county. The three said they did come specifically to be counted but did participate in the survey. The count is mandated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the number of people who didn't have a home to sleep in on the night Jan. 26 will be used in formulas that determine funding for local homeless service agencies.
