  • Matt Dixon | The Flint Journal..Dr. Frazer Wadenstorer, Medical Director of the Intensive Care Unit at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, poses for a portrait with the ArcticSun 5000 hypothermia machine Wednesday afternoon. The machine is used to quickly cool cardiac arrest victims, which helps prevent brain, heart, and muscle damage when they are fully revived. The machine is typically used on patients who have suffered sudden cardiac arrest and are able to regain a pulse but not consciousness. The victim is kept cool and unconscious for 24 hours before being gradually warmed and woken up. McLaren has had the $45 thousand machine for about 6 months and has used it on 8 patients.

Brandon's grandfather contributed the gas pump and other collectables for the exhibit which Brandon and his partner Tanner Dingman built and painted. The projects were a part of an AP U.S. history class, "American Innovation and Technology."
