Vet Tech Janie Suarez-Interian takes the temperature of one of dozens of chickens being temporarily housed in the family education room Friday at Central Nebraska Humane Society. Although the chickens looked pretty rough, they were healthy according to Suarez-Interian. The chickens were rescued around 1 a.m. Friday after police pulled over Luis N. Motola-Palacio who had about 100 chickens in his SUV. About 44 chickens died. So far, Motola-Palacio has been charged with second-offense driving under the influence and second-offense driving during suspension. (Independent/Matt Dixon)
