Weighing about 90 pounds, Kona, a one-and-half-year old wolf and dog mix, towers over Animal Control Officer Guy Skodmin at the Central Nebraska Humane Society in Grand Island. Legally Kona cannot be adopted out of the CNHS so the staff is working to send the gentle giant to a rescue facility that specializes in wolf-dog hybrids and their needs. (Independent/Matt Dixon)
